Design and Me

Monday, August 28, 2006
I have been teaching myself html and other design stuff, and I am going to say that I am addicted. I am not good by any means but I am just hungry for information. I have always wanted to be a graphic designer. I think that is just a fascinating job. I have such respect for people who do this for a living. Well with all that said I have learned a few things, that I wanted to update you all on. I have learned how to make and install a favicon. I have learned how to post pictures in the sidebar of my blog, and just now I learned how to insert a banner as a Title (thanks to Tank), so make sure to tune in for that. But until then make sure to check out my favicon and to see the music that I am listening to on the sidebar.

(I know that for some of you this is a very small and simple accomplishment, but for me this is a rather large and time consuming step for me in my journey to becoming an weak amateur graphic designer)

I tried and I came up a bit short. I was hoping to win the blog banner giveaway contest at iamjoshbrown.com. I ended up getting third. I am not a poor sport, and I would like to give it up to the winner (Leslie) and the runner up (Joshua). You guys did a great job and I loved your strategy. Enjoy the spoils of war.

I also want to thank Josh for the shout out on his video.

My Friday Night

Well the wife and I went out this evening and caught the opening of "Invincible". I liked the movie. It was well written and the acting was good. I do wonder how much of it was true though. It was rather ordinary though and a lot like the movie "Rudy", actually it was exactly like the movie "Rudy". It was somewhat inspirational, but overall it was good. Oh and my wife was looking exceptionally nice this evening also.

A New Life?

Thursday, August 24, 2006

Sometimes I wish that I lived out in the middle of nowhere. I think that life would be easier if there was nobody else around. If anything went wrong, or everything sucked than I would have only myself to blame.

Would life be easier out in the middle of nowhere? I wonder if I would just trade one problem for another?

I will be there...

This is one of two movies that I have to see the day that they come out. I will post about the other movie later. I don't know what it is about movies like this that really drive me. I think that is why I liked Garden State and Life Aquatic so much. They are stories of rebirth. Of taking the life that you find yourself in and risking everything for something better and real. This movie seems like that kind of movie as well, and it has a sweet soundtrack. I love movies with great soundtracks as well. Check it out:

”We are confronted with choices everyday, they are not always easy, or safe, but each choice that is placed before us has the potential to shape us into the people that we were created to be.”

Inflation?

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Is it just me or did the price for these go up? For the past few months I have been saving for my first mac. Now it looks like I am going to have to do a little more saving. Does anyone know why the price went up on all the Mac Books?

Is it because of the rising price of oil? Did Steve Jobs scare up a little skirmish overseas so that he could hike up the mac book prices?

A Cool Update

Monday, August 14, 2006
I was reading a post over at David's Bucket and it turns out that Flannel is releasing the video of "Everything is Spiritual". I think that this is a great thing. Rob talked so fast and said so much that there is no way anyone could remember everything. I thought that this was a great event to go to, and I think that this video would be a great thing to show off.

Movie Review: Taladega Nights

Friday, August 11, 2006
Go and see this movie! There I said it. I don’t want to waste any of your time. This was an excellent movie, and not a waste of time at all. Stacy and I were very leary about going to see this film because we were afraid that they already showed all the funny scenes in the trailers. But there was plenty left to show and to laugh at.

Will Ferell is the man. He can take anything and make it funny. Unfortunately SNL has really dropped because he left. The sketches are really stupid and the writing is just horrible. But I really don’t think that the writing has changed, they just don’t have the cast to pull it off now.

Go see this movie!!

A Quote from an Heiress...

Tuesday, August 08, 2006
I was walking through the living room this evening and my wife was watching a special on MTV about Paris Hilton. I stopped for a moment to watch it because anything with Paris in it is so stupid that it is actually funny.

So she makes the statement, “everyone thinks that I am all about material stuff, but there is so much more to me than you know.”

Come on…there is nothing more to you than what we see. You are not deep at all. Well I should take that back. There is something deep about you…your wallet. But that is it.

Movie Review: Miami Vice

My wife and I went to see the opening of this movie, and I must say that it was a complete waste of time. Really the only reason that we went to see this movie is because we are completely bored because we don't know to many people in the new town of Salisbury. I can’t believe that this movie made number one in the box office. This film lacked period! It lacked story, action, suspense, acting, and common sense.

The only reason that this movie was made was because of it’s two stars. Jamie Foxx is real big right now because of Ray and his music career, and Colin Ferrel is on everyone’s minds because he just got out of rehab. I bet that the studio didn’t even read the script before signing on to pay for this movie, they just saw Jamie and Colin’s name on the sheet and said do it.

So my advice…don’t go see this movie. Maybe rent it, maybe. Other than that save your money and go to see something better, even if you have to wait a week or two.

I am doing something that I have not done since 1992…I am cheering for USA Basketball, or should I say USK Basketball. If you don’t know I am a huge Duke fan and an even bigger Coach K fan. My dog’s middle name is Krzyzewski. He is very talented at what he does. I am really expecting great things from him. Coach K does not like showboating and crappy defense, which has been the play of previous USA teams. So I just have three words for you…GO USA BASKETBALL!

Mel...what have you done? You have ruined your chances for "The Passion II-Revenge of the Carpenter" Now all those conservative Christians won't go, and they won't buy the soundtrack, and the framed movie stills, and the 2 nails made into a cross necklace. What were you thinking?

What I Learned From...

While I was flipping through the channels today I happened to see a movie playing that I have not seen in years. I must say that when I last saw this movie I was in elementary school, and it was hilarious when I saw it. It was Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

It was not as funny as I remember. With that said the movie was not completely stupid, just old fashioned. I can’t believe that we used to dress and talk like that. Well I tell you all this to point out something that I did not remember hearing in the movie all those years ago.

In the climax of the movie, when Bill and Ted are giving their history report presentation to the class of San Demas high school, and Abe Lincoln comes up and gives a new representation of his famous speech in which he quotes Bill and Ted by saying. “Be excellent to each other”.

What a great and simple saying. Sounds like something I have heard before. But only pronounced through the mouth of a crazy 1980 cali Keanu. This phrase echoes something so familiar. Sounds like something that Jesus would have said…oh wait He did.

I never thought that I would be typing this but I have actually learned something important from the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Thank you Mr. Ortiz, or should I call you Big Papi, or as I like to call you...Mr. Clutch. I can't believe that they pitched to you. Haven't you shown that you always come through in the end?

You are the MVP! I don't care if you are DH or not.
